The Seward County Saints Basketball season ended Sunday night in Wichita as the #15 Butler Grizzlies took the rubber match between the two by 2 points 67-65 in Koch Arena in the Region VI Tournament Semifinals. The game was close throughout with no lead being larger than Seward's 7 point lead early in the game but a number of offensive rebounds for the guys from El Dorado would help them creep back into the game and eventually take the lead in the second half. Seward was down by 7 late in the game but rallied to make it close at the end as Donte McCarter was at the line with the Saints down by three and just over 1 second to go when he made the first free throw and intentionally missed the second. McCarter then got his own rebound just as it was drawn up
but his shot missed short and a Marky Nolen putback was just a half a second too late and the Saints fell by 2. The loss ends the Saints season at 24-9 and in 3rd place in the region while Butler advances to the tournament championship game against Coffeyville Monday night at 8 with the winner going to the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson.
